initial reactions

i never thought i could
love someone’s hands as much
as i love yours they paint worlds
above my head the constellations you made
so familiar like freckles allow me
to see the way home etch the outlines
of an ocean into my back make waves flow over
my lumps and bumps over the scars of
childhood and my jilted heart coax
a flame back into the blistered charcoal that’s been
left behind i wonder would you let me hold on
you might even love someone
else so long as you could still
hold me ground me shake and
shove me kiss me bite me hate and
crave me all at once only
i know that won’t happen
holding you is like catching smoke
you move with the wind while i
wait inside alone
praying i don’t choke
